My computer freezes when I try to surf the web using Firefox or IE8. Should I be concerned?

When I try to open web pages using Firefox or IE8, my computer locks up. Just by luck, I had Google Chrome downloaded and it works just fine. Is this something I should be concerned about, or should I continue to use Google Chrome and not worry? I scanned with Malwarebytes and Avast and no virus or spyware were found. My OS is Windows Vista Home Basic.
